Delhi car blast: 9mm cartridges, used by Army, recovered from site

PTC News Desk: Delhi Police have recovered three 9mm cartridges from the site where a car blast near the Red Fort earlier this month killed 13 people and injured several others. Investigators said two of the cartridges were live and one was a spent shell.

The finding is notable because 9mm rounds are generally used by security agencies, yet no gun or weapon parts were discovered at the scene. Police also checked the ammunition issued to officers on duty at the spot and found no discrepancies, ruling out the possibility that the cartridges came from them.

Umar’s involvement was confirmed after DNA collected from the blast site matched samples taken from his mother. Newly obtained visuals have also provided a clearer picture of his movements, tracing his path from a university campus in Faridabad to Old Delhi just hours before the explosion.

Police pieced together this trail using footage from more than 5,000 CCTV cameras across various districts, highways, and checkpoints in Delhi-NCR.

Investigators believe the blast near Red Fort Metro Station Gate 1 was caused by a high-grade explosive. Forensic experts found at least one sample stronger than ammonium nitrate and gathered over 40 pieces of evidence, including cartridges, live rounds, and explosive residue. Analysis indicates that the car likely contained 30 to 40 kg of ammonium nitrate, which aligns with the intensity of the explosion.
