Delhi Excise Policy: Court declines to stay summons issued to Arvind Kejriwal by ED

Delhi excise policy: The  sessions court of Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Friday declined to suspend the summonses issued to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in response to complaints filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The court declined to halt the legal proceedings against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in front of a magisterial court concerning the Enforcement Directorate's complaint. This complaint alleges his failure to attend summons related to a money laundering case associated with the Delhi excise policy scam.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal instructed Arvind Kejriwal to seek exemption from personal appearance directly from the metropolitan magistrate. Kejriwal had appealed to the sessions court against the directive issued by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra, summoning him to appear before her on March 16.

The Enforcement Directorate lodged two complaints with the magisterial court, seeking Kejriwal's prosecution for disregarding multiple summonses in the case. The latest complaint pertains to his non-compliance with summonses numbered 4 to 8, issued under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), as stated by the ED.

Earlier, the ED had approached the magisterial court to prosecute Kejriwal for failing to attend the initial three summonses issued to him in connection with the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.

ACMM Malhotra's court has scheduled a hearing for the matter concerning summonses numbered 1 to 3 on March 16, alongside the other complaint. Kejriwal has currently ignored a total of eight summonses issued by the agency.
