Delhi fridge murder case update: Sahil Gahlot and Nikki Yadav were married and not just live-in partners. This startling revelation was made by the  Delhi Police on Saturday.

Currently, accused Sahil Gahlot is being interrogated by officials of the crime branch. He is accused of strangulating  Nikki Yadav a phone's data cable. He allegedly stuffed her body in a refrigerator of his family-owned dhaba at Mitraon village in South West Delhi.

He told the officials that they had solemnised their marriage at an Arya Samaj temple three years ago. He told the police that Nikki had been pressurising him not to marry another girl as they were already married. They were actually husband and wife and not live-in partners, Special CP Ravinder Yadav said.

According to the accused, his family had fixed his marriage with another girl on February 10.

Since Nikki had been raising objections to it, Sahil alleged hatched a conspiracy to kill her along with his accomplices — family members and acquaintances — on February 10. On the same day, he got married to another girl, Special CP Ravinder Yadav added.

So far, the crime branch has arrested five persons, including Sahil's father, in connection with the case on charges of helping his son in the conspiracy. Sahil's father, Ashish, Naveen, Amar, and Lokesh have been arrested.

It is learnt that among the arrested persons is Naveen, cousin of the prime accused, who is a Delhi Police constable. He allegedly accompanied Sahil in hatching the conspiracy.

The five persons have been booked under Sections 120 B (Criminal Conspiracy), 201 (Causing Disappearance of Evidence of Offence), 202 (knowing or having reason to believe that an offence has been committed), and 212 (harbouring or concealing offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On Wednesday, the last rites of Nikki Yadav were performed at her native Haryana village of Jhajjar.

Multiple teams are working to identify the route taken by Sahil on the fateful night. CCTV footages are also being scanned.
