Delhi govt declares public holiday on November 25 to mark 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

PTC Web Desk: The Delhi Government has announced that November 25 will be observed as a public holiday to commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas (martyrdom day) of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, revered globally for his sacrifice to protect religious freedom.

The announcement was shared by Rekha Gupta on social media platform X, where she stated that the decision honours Guru Sahib’s unparalleled courage, compassion and commitment to defending human rights and faith.


In her message, she wrote: “May Guru Sahib’s timeless message of courage, compassion, and freedom of faith continue to guide and inspire us in our collective journey ahead.”

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is remembered for his supreme sacrifice, when he gave his life in defence of religious liberty, becoming a symbol of universal brotherhood, dignity and resilience.

The declaration of a public holiday is seen as a historic step to honour the Guru’s legacy and ensure wider public participation in observances planned across the national capital.
