Delhi-NCR endures cold wave as rain and fog lower temperatures further
PTC Web Desk: Parts of Delhi, Noida and Gurugram experienced rainfall on Friday, intensifying the already harsh cold wave in the region. Delhi recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 4.6°C early in the morning. Despite the rain, thick fog continued to cover the Delhi-NCR area, reducing visibility and adding to the winter chill, according to morning reports.
The rain followed a day when the city recorded a low of 5.8°C on Thursday, the third-lowest this winter. Observations at Safdarjung showed temperatures 1.1°C below the seasonal average. Maximum temperatures also remained below normal across the city, keeping the daytime chill persistent.

Delhi began 2026 under cold wave conditions combined with dense fog. On January 6, the minimum temperature was 7.6°C, slightly below normal. On January 7, the city recorded a maximum of 16.7°C, 2.3°C below the seasonal average, and a minimum of 8.6°C, 1.7°C below normal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines a “cold day” as one when the minimum temperature drops below 10°C or when the maximum is 4.5–6.4°C below normal. Several early January days in Delhi have already met this criterion.
Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against cold-related health risks and plan for reduced visibility on roads due to fog.
