Delhi Police files case against SFJ activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu over Republic Day threats
PTC Web Desk: Delhi Police’s Special Cell has registered a case against pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, associated with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for allegedly threatening to create disturbances in the national capital ahead of Republic Day. Following the claims made in a video by Pannu, security has been heightened in key areas of the city as a precaution.
Police officials stated that the case has been filed under sections 196, 197, 152, and 61 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, or language, acts prejudicial to national unity and criminal conspiracy.
According to authorities, the action was taken after Pannu released a video on social media allegedly threatening to disrupt law and order in Delhi before the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. In the video, he claimed that his ‘sleeper cells’ had posted pro-Khalistan posters in parts of the city, including Rohini in northwest Delhi and Dabri in southwest Delhi.
Senior police officials said the video circulated widely on social media with the intent to create fear among the public and incite unrest. In response, multiple teams from the Special Cell and local police units conducted searches in the mentioned areas. However, no pro-Khalistan posters or related materials were recovered.
Considering the Republic Day celebrations, security agencies have increased vigilance across the capital. The police have warned that any attempt to disturb public order will be dealt with strictly under the law.
