Delhi police launches joint op to arrest AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan for 'helping criminal escape'
PTC News Desk: Delhi police in a joint operation has launched multiple raids to arrest Okhla AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan for allegedly helping a criminal escape. A case has been registered against Khan for obstructing police operation to arrest an accused in a murder case.
The joint operation by the teams of Jamia Nagar police station, South East District and Crime Branch was launched a day after a case was lodged against Amanatullah Khan who last week defeated BJP's Manish Chaudhary in the Okhla constituency in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls.
Reportedly AAP MLA was not present at his residence and his phone was switched off.
According the police officials, the operation was launched in Jamia to take Shahbaz Khan into custody on the charges of attempt to murder. However soon the operation was intervened by three-time MLA raising doubts over the legitimacy of the arrest emphasising the the individual is not a criminal.
The confrontation snowballed into a heated argument between Khan and the Crime branch team. Amid the chaos, Shahbaz Khan managed to flee and has been absconding ever since. Police has accused AAP MLA of obstructing the process of arrest and facilitating escape of Shahbaz.
Anticipating tension in the area, Delhi Police has deployed personnel in the area and outside the residence of the AAP MLA.
