Dense fog grips Punjab, Haryana, Delhi; train travel hit
PTC News Desk: A dense layer of fog engulfed Punjab, Haryana and parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on the first day of the New Year, disrupting transport and affecting at least 21 trains. In the midst of dense fog, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously issued a red alert for these states.
"Fog layer (encircled patch) over Punjab, north Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, northwest Madhya Pradesh, south Uttarakhand, Sub Himalayan West Bengal is visible in satellite picture at 06:15 IST of 01.01.2024," IMD stated.
As many as 21 Delhi-bound trains, including the Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, were delayed due to foggy conditions, frustrating passengers.
On the first day of the New Year 2024, however, the city woke up to a warmer morning, with a minimum temperature of 10.1 degrees Celsius, three degrees higher than the season's average.
