DGCA takes 542 enforcement actions on Airlines; 77 % up in violations in 2023

Airlines violations: In a significant movie towards enhancing safety standards in the aviation industry, Directorate General of Civil Aviation takes a total of 542 enforcement actions in 2023 which was a 77 per cent increase as compared to the 305 enforcement actions carried out in 2022.

The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has implemented rigorous measures to enforce regulatory compliance by conducting surveillance activities on airlines, aerodrome operators, approved organizations, and aviation personnel under its regulatory jurisdiction.

This proactive approach is aimed at upholding safety obligations and is supported by comprehensive surveillance mechanisms. These measures play a crucial role in enhancing safety margins and mitigating potential safety risks throughout the aviation industry.

In year 2023,  DGCA intensified its safety oversight efforts and conducted a staggering 5745 surveillances (4039 planned surveillances, 1706 spot checks and night surveillance), which is an all-time high witnessing a 77 percent increase as compared to the 305 enforcement actions carried out for the year 2022. 

The notable enforcement actions taken by DGCA includes suspending the Approved Training Organisation of Air India and imposing financial penalties on several airlines, including Air India, Air Asia, Indigo, and Spice Jet, for various non-compliances.

Moreover, the DGCA also took enforcement measures against pilots, cabin crew, air traffic control officers (ATCOs), non-scheduled airlines, flying training organizations, and aerodrome operators.

These violations highlights the Directorate General of Civil Aviation steadfast dedication to upholding compliance, emphasising the vital role of adhering to safety regulations for the overall safety of the aviation sector and ensuring secure skies.
