Eight dead as bus falls into gorge in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris, several injured
Nilgiris Bus Accident: At least 8 people died and several others were injured when a tourist bus fell into a deep gorge near Coonoor in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. The bus which was on its way to Tenkasi was carrying 55 passengers.
The bus plunged into the gorge when the driver lost control on a hairpin turn. Locals, police, and firefighters rushed to the victims' aid and rescued the injured.
The bus overturned as a result of the incident, and rescue workers were seen using ropes to descend to the damaged vehicle and reach out to the passengers.
According to preliminary accounts, the driver lost control on the hairpin turn, causing the bus to plummet down the steep incline.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his condolences, announcing a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased. A Rs 50,000 has also been announced for those who had suffered minor injuries.
