Faridabad stalker arrested days after he shot 17-year-old girl in Haryana’s Ballabgarh area
PTC Web Desk: The Faridabad police have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of shooting a 17-year-old girl in Haryana’s Ballabgarh area after allegedly stalking her for several months. The accused, identified as Jatin Mangla, was nabbed on Wednesday following an encounter in which he sustained a leg injury.
According to police officials, Mangla worked in the accounts department of a private educational group in Jakhopur, Faridabad. He was apprehended by the crime branch from his native village, Saramathla, after an intensive search operation.
A police spokesperson said during interrogation, Jatin Mangla confessed to working at Rawal Institute College, Jakhopur, where he first met the girl in 2024. Despite repeated refusals from the minor, he continued to harass her. On November 3, when the girl ignored his attempt to talk, he lost his temper and fired at her.
The victim, a Class 12 student preparing for the JEE examination, was returning home from a library around 5.20 pm on Monday when the accused attacked her in Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony. CCTV footage of the incident shows Mangla firing a country-made pistol at the girl. The first shot misfired, giving her a moment to move, but the second bullet hit her left shoulder and forearm, with splinters injuring her face.
She was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors performed surgeries, and her condition is now stable.
Investigators are trying to trace the source of the weapon used in the crime and determine his motive.
Meanwhile, the Haryana State Commission for Women has sought a detailed report from Faridabad Police on the investigation’s progress, along with information on the victim’s safety and support being provided to her family.
