PTC Web Desk: Himachal Pradesh has reported its first Covid-19 case of the year, with an 82-year-old woman from Sirmaur district testing positive at Nahan Medical College. The patient arrived at the hospital on Tuesday morning for treatment and tested positive via a rapid antigen test.

According to medical staff, doctors advised immediate hospitalisation, but the woman refused to be admitted. She was instead provided with necessary medical treatment and prescribed medicines before being allowed to return home.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sirmaur, Dr  Amitabh Jain, confirmed the positive test result and stated that the sample will be sent to Ner Chowk Medical College in Mandi for genome sequencing to identify the variant.

Dr Jain has instructed the Block Medical Officer (BMO) to trace and test all individuals who may have come in contact with the infected woman. He also assured the public that Nahan Medical College is fully prepared for such cases. “The oxygen plant is fully functional, ICU facilities have been set up, and the department has been notified regarding RT-PCR testing kits,” said Dr. Jain.

The Himachal Pradesh government had issued an advisory last week to all medical colleges and hospitals across the state, urging them to maintain readiness for any Covid resurgence.
