From Pak to Afghan border: Jyoti Malhotra's arrest exposes massive espionage network; This is the modus operandi
PTC News Desk: The arrest of Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana based YouTuber has exposed a massive conspiracy module linked to Pakistan's spy agency ISI and use of modern technology in establishing massive espionage network in India.
The preliminary investigation indicates that she established contacts upto Pakistan-Afghanistan border which is known for terrorist activity and has a limited civilian access.
The modus operandi of the spy network was to recruit people with significant social media presence. Besides, gathering intelligence, they were also allegedly tasked with promoting a positive image of Pakistan. Malhotra has around 4 lakh subscribers on YouTube and 1,32,000 followers on Instagram.
Jyoti Malhotra who has been sent to 5-day police custody is jointly being interrogated by NIA, IB, and Haryana Police. She is reportedly not cooperating in the investigation and attempting to mislead the investigation.
Following her trips to Pakistan, Jyoti Malhotra's visits to China and Bangladesh are also under scrutiny. She first visited Pakistan in April 2023 in the garb of attending the 324th Baisakhi festival. She again visited the country in 2024 and for the third time this year in March. After the festival concluded, she stayed in Pakistan for 20 days and later returned to India. Upon her return, she travelled to China one month later.
The agencies are investigating if the China trip was planned during her stay in Pakistan.
