Gujarat ATS arrests three ISIS-linked terrorists for planning attacks in India
PTC News Desk: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Sunday arrested three ISIS-linked terrorists from Ahmedabad for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks across India.
According to ATS officials, the suspects had been under surveillance for nearly a year and were detained while attempting to deliver weapons.
“The terrorists had come to Gujarat to exchange weapons and were reportedly planning coordinated attacks at several locations across the country. The three accused belong to two separate ISIS modules. Investigations are underway to determine their intended targets and areas of operation,” the ATS said in an official statement.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released soon.
Earlier this year, the Gujarat ATS had arrested five members of the terror group Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), including a woman from Bengaluru accused of running an online radicalisation network with links to Pakistani handlers.
Those arrested in that operation were identified as Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, and Zeeshan Ali. They were apprehended on July 22 for allegedly spreading AQIS’s extremist ideology through social media. During the operation, officials recovered an illegal semi-automatic pistol and live cartridges from Zeeshan Ali’s possession.
The weapon was seized during a follow-up raid at Zeeshan’s Noida residence, based on information obtained during interrogation.
The operation was led by Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and Sub-Inspector A.R. Chaudhary, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Virajeetsinh Parmar.
The group is accused of promoting violence under the banner of “Ghazwa-e-Hind,” advocating an armed rebellion against India’s elected government, and inciting attacks on non-Muslims.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under multiple provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
