Haryana jail warden dies by suicide, alleges mental distress by DSP in suicide note

PTC News Desk: A warden of Sirsa District Jail in Haryana allegedly died by suicide on Friday.  The victim, Sukhdev Singh, resident of Hijrawan Khurd village in Fatehbad district reportedly wrote two suicide notes citing mental harassment by DSP and another officer over duty deployment.

Before committing suicide, the warden also called his son, Jaspal and informed him about the drastic step as he was fed up with harassment. He reportedly asked his son to take care of himself and his mother.

Sukhdev Singh was immediately rushed to civil hospital, later he was shifted to a private hospital where he succumbed.

On the complaint of the warden’s son Jaspal, Sirsa’s Civil Lines police registered a case against the DSP and the line officer. SP Deepak Saharan said action would be taken against both officers named in the suicide note after an inquiry.

"I received a call from my father at 5 pm on Thursday. He had swallowed a poisonous substance. He blamed the DSP and another officer for his death. I reached the spot with my family within an hour. We first took my father to the Civil Hospital. Due to his critical condition, we took him to a private hospital where he died during treatment," Jaspal said.
