Heavy rain lashes Pink City: Waterlogging issue in Jaipur leads to traffic chaos; orange alert issued

Monsoon mayhem in Jaipur: The relentless and torrential rainfall in Jaipur, also known as the ‘Pink City’ affects the normal life with some areas of the city submerged in water and throwing traffic out of gear.

Incessant rainfall caused inconvenience to Jaipur locals and tourists, making it extremely challenging for pedestrians and motorists to commute.


Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued orange alert in eastern parts of Rajasthan. The torrential rainfall caused waterlogging issue, hampered normal life and also hit the traffic.

Challenging times for locals and shopkeepers in Jaipur 

Heavy overnight downpour in Jaipur several areas submerged. Major inconvenience caused to the locals and shopkeepers as the rain did not stopped for a second in state and flood-like situation was witnessed in several markets including the renowned Parakode Bazaar. 

Both shopkeepers and shoppers were inconvenienced as rainwater gushed in and flooded their establishments.

Waterlogging issue in Jaipur 

The waterlogging and heavy rainfall further brought the transport life in the city to a halt and resulted in massive traffic jams across several places in the region.

The situation was no different on Sikar Road where waterlogged streets made commuting unsafe.

The city grappled with submerged roads and buildings, with water levels rising up to knee-deep, making it extremely challenging for pedestrians and motorists to commute.

Areas including MI Road, Choti Chaupar, Chaura Raasta, Naraian Singh Circle and Kacchi Basti witnessed rampant waterlogging where residents are forced to wade through knee-deep water to carry out their daily chores.

Railway services hampered in Jaipur 

Heavy rainfall also affected the rail movement as the tracks at Gandhi Nagar and Durgapur railway stations submerged which delayed the Jaipur-Mumbai superfast.

Rescue operation 

The efforts are being made by the government to protect the people of Jaipur.  At least 13 teams of civil defence and four teams of state disaster relief force were deployed across the city to rescue to help people who are still stuck in low-lying areas of Jaipur.
