Himachal hikes entry toll tax by 250 % from April 1, cars to now pay Rs 170
PTC News Desk: In a move to strengthen revenue amid financial distress, the Himachal government has surged announced a steep hike in entry toll rates for vehicles arriving from other states.
The revised toll rates — which see nearly a twofold increase in several categories — will take effect from April 1 under the new barrier policy for the 2026–27 financial year.
As per the updated notification, private vehicles entering Himachal Pradesh from neighbouring states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi will now pay ₹170 as entry tax, up from the earlier ₹70. Vehicles with a seating capacity of 12 1 passengers, which previously paid ₹110, will also be charged ₹170. Toll for heavy vehicles has been raised from ₹720 to ₹900.
Construction equipment, including JCBs and similar machinery, will now attract a fee of ₹800, compared to the earlier ₹570. The entry charge for tractors has been increased from ₹70 to ₹100. However, the toll for double-axle buses and trucks remains unchanged at ₹570.
Entry tax barriers are situated at Govindghat in Sirmaur district, Kandwal in Nurpur, Mehatpur in Una, Baddi, Parwanoo, and near Garamora in Bilaspur district. Vehicles registered in Himachal Pradesh will continue to be exempt from paying the entry tax.
