Himachal Pradesh: Fire during Kullu Dussehra festival destroys 13 shops, tents | Watch Video
Kullu, October 28: A fire broke during Kullu Dussehra in Himachal Pradesh out on Friday evening, resulting in the destruction of 13 shops and tents. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, but two individuals sustained injuries while attempting to extinguish the flames, with one of them requiring hospitalisation, as confirmed by Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg.
The fire rapidly spread from one tent to another, prompting those inside to quickly evacuate for their safety. Both the local administration and devotees of the deities present at the festival swiftly responded to control the fire. While they managed to contain the fire, unfortunately, 13 tents, including some commercial stalls, were reduced to ashes within minutes.
The Deputy Commissioner assured that the palanquins carrying the deities were safely removed from the tents by their followers as soon as the fire started, thus preserving these sacred items.
This incident occurred at the Dussehra ground, located in front of the court complex, where the week-long festival commenced on October 24. When the fire broke out, the 'raths' (chariots) were also moved out of the tents. Temporary arrangements have been made for those affected by the fire, according to officials.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and a thorough assessment of the extent of the damages is currently underway, as stated by the Deputy Commissioner.
