Himachal to receive heavy rain till August 16; 128 roads blocked due to landslides, flash floods
PTC News Desk: Several regions in Himachal Pradesh have been witnessing heavy rains that have triggered landslides, flash floods and the closure of 128 roads.
The regional Met Office has also issued an 'orange' warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in isolated areas on Saturday, as well as a 'yellow' warning for heavy rain until August 16.
Heavy rains lashed sections of the state, with Nahan (Sirmaur) receiving the most rainfall (168.3 mm) since Friday evening, followed by Sandhole (106.4 mm), Nagrota Suriyan (93.2 mm), Dhaulakuan (67 mm), Jubberhatti (53.2 mm), and Kandaghat (45.6 mm).
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the rains disrupted 44 electricity and 67 water supply facilities.
The Met Department also warned of a low to moderate flash flood danger in isolated areas of Mandi, Sirmaur, Shimla, and Kullu districts until Sunday morning.
The meteorological department has warned that severe winds and floods in low-lying areas might cause damage to plantations, crops, and weak structures.
In light of an orange signal for heavy to very heavy rain in Hamirpur district on Saturday, Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh urged locals to exercise caution and avoid walking near rivers and streams.
He also encouraged people not to seek refuge under trees in bad weather and to keep a safe distance from power lines.
