Amritsar airport: Flight schedules to change from April 1, airport to remain shut for eight hours

Amritsar airport: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced significant changes in the flight operations at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport for the upcoming summer schedule, citing extensive runway and airfield infrastructure works.


The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), stating that the runway will remain closed for 8 hours daily from April 1 to September 27, 2026.

The airport will be shut from 1:45 pm to 9:45 pm every day, and no flights will operate during this period. All airlines have adjusted their flight timings accordingly. Passengers are advised to check their flight schedules before traveling.

62 flights in the summer schedule

A total of 62 flights are included in Amritsar airport’s summer schedule, of which 40 are domestic and 22 are international.

Domestic destinations: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Kullu, Srinagar, and Pune

International destinations: Doha, Dubai, Singapore, Birmingham, London Gatwick, Kuala Lumpur, Sharjah, and Bangkok

Major work to be carried out on the runway

  1. Runway re-carpeting: The 3,658-meter-long runway will be repaired and resurfaced with two new layers (each 50 mm thick) to ensure safe operations for large aircraft. The runway will reopen daily at 9:45 pm after work is completed.
  2. Overrun area repairs: The overrun area at the end of the runway will be strengthened to ensure safer landings and takeoffs during emergencies.
  3. Runway End Safety Area (RESA) development: Safety areas at both ends of the runway (16 and 34) will be upgraded to meet international standards, improving overall flight safety.
  4. LED lighting installation: More than 2,000 non-LED lights will be replaced with modern LED lights to enhance visibility during low-light conditions and reduce energy consumption.
  5. Installation of ILCMS: An Individual Light Control Monitoring System will be installed, allowing runway lights to be monitored and controlled from the control room, improving efficiency and safety.
