Himachal weather update: Shimla, Kullu, Bilaspur to witness rainfall in next 48 hours

Shimla, April 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts for thunderstorms, hail, and rainfall in 10 districts of Himachal Pradesh over the next 48 hours.

IMD Shimla stated, "Thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and strong winds (30-40kmph) are expected at isolated locations in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una in Himachal Pradesh  during the next 48 hours."


Meanwhile, the IMD has reported that severe heatwave conditions are anticipated to persist over East and South Peninsular India for the next five days.

The forecast indicates that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will prevail in many areas of Gangetic West Bengal, some parts of Odisha, and isolated pockets in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal during this period.

A new spell of rainfall combined with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over the Western Himalayan region from April 26-29, and the plains of Northwest India from April 26-28, along with adjoining Central India from April 26-27.

IMD has also predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) over Arunachal Pradesh, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during April 26-30, 2024.

Sikkim is likely to experience isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on April 28, 2024.

Moreover, heavy rainfall is anticipated over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from April 28-30, 2024.
