'Historic agreement': Air India to buy 540 Airbus and Boeing planes
New Delhi, February 14: Air India, which will buy 250 planes from Airbus, has also chosen Boeing for up to 290 planes as part of its growth strategy.
US President Joe Biden lauded a "historic agreement" between Air India and Boeing.
Earlier in the day, France President Emmanuel Macron hailed the contract between Airbus and Tata Sons, saying it marks a new stage in India and France's strategic partnership. According to a Boeing statement, Air India has chosen up to 290 of its jets to support its long-term growth strategy. According to the report, Air India has chosen 190 737 MAX, 20 787 Dreamliner, and ten 777X aircraft.
Boeing and Air India's agreement includes options for 50 additional 737 MAXs and 20 787-9s.
When finalised, this will be the largest Boeing order in South Asia, according to Boing, and a historic milestone in the aerospace company's nearly 90-year partnership with Air India.
According to Biden, the purchase of over 200 American-made aircraft through an agreement between Air India and Boeing reflects the strength of the US-India economic partnership.
