PTC News Desk: India delivered the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines on Friday, as part of a USD 375 million agreement signed in 2022.

According to defence sources, the Indian Air Force sent its American-made C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft with the missiles to the Philippines to deliver the weapon system to the Philippine Marine Corps.

The export of ground systems for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system, as well as missiles, began last month, they said.

The delivery of the missile systems comes at a time when tensions between the Philippines and China have risen due to frequent clashes in the South China Sea. The Philippines would deploy three BrahMos missile batteries in their coastal areas to protect against any regional threats.

The agreement has received multiple approvals from the programme's partner nations.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, a joint venture between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya, is regarded as one of the world's most successful missile programmes. BRAHMOS, widely regarded as the world's most advanced and fastest precision-guided weapon, has played a critical role in strengthening India's deterrence capabilities.

Since 2007, the Indian Army has integrated a number of BrahMos regiments into its arsenal.
