India-Pakistan War Breaking: India and Pakistan agree to immediate ceasefire; India says talks held directly at military level

PTC Web Desk: Following a period of intense military tension, India and Pakistan have officially agreed to a complete ceasefire, marking a significant de-escalation in hostilities. The agreement came after Pakistan initiated contact with India, leading to formal negotiations and a mutual decision to halt military actions across all domains—land, air, and sea.

At a press conference on Saturday, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the development. “The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart at 3:30 pm today. Both sides agreed to enforce a full ceasefire starting from 5:00 pm,” Misri said. He added that military leaders from both nations are scheduled to speak again on May 12 to ensure implementation.

The announcement closely followed a post by US President Donald Trump, who claimed the breakthrough came after a night of intense US-facilitated negotiations. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” the president stated on Truth Social.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also confirmed the development, noting that India remains firm in its stance against terrorism. “India and Pakistan have reached an understanding to halt all military operations. Our commitment to fighting terrorism in all forms remains unchanged,” he said.

However, according to government sources, the current agreement does not extend to discussions on broader bilateral issues or future talks at a neutral venue.
