COVID-19 cases: India has witnessed a stark surge in COVID-19 cases, with 752 new infections reported within the last 24 hours, marking a significant increase compared to the previous day's count. This surge has also resulted in four reported deaths, surpassing the single death recorded yesterday.

Yesterday, the nation registered 328 new cases and one fatality, of which Kerala alone contributed 265 cases. The reported death also originated from the southern state.

Presently, India grapples with 3,420 active COVID-19 cases, reflecting an increase of 423 cases from the 2,997 reported yesterday, according to the health ministry dashboard. The emergence of the JN.1 variant has notably fueled this recent upsurge, raising concerns among health authorities and experts. Goa has reported 21 cases of this variant, with an additional case identified in Kerala, according to the PTI news agency.

Kerala, a significant contributor to the country's caseload, reported 565 new COVID-19 cases within the past day, pushing the state's active cases to 2,872. In an unexpected turn, Noida reported its first COVID-19 case in months. A 54-year-old resident, employed in Gurugram, tested positive for the virus, marking a concerning development in the region's epidemiological situation.
