IndiGo Guwahati-Chennai flight flight declares 'Mayday', but lands safely; both pilots derostered
PTC Web Desk: In yet another concerning aviation incident, an IndiGo flight operating from Guwahati to Chennai was forced to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru on Thursday night after the pilots reportedly declared a 'mayday' due to critically low fuel levels, according to airport sources. The aircraft was carrying 168 passengers at the time of the emergency.
The flight was safely landed at Kempegowda International Airport around 8.20 pm, following swift coordination from the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and emergency response teams. Fire and medical units were deployed on standby, ensuring that the passengers were disembarked without any injuries or complications.
In the wake of the incident, both pilots have been derostered pending a detailed investigation into the cause of the fuel crisis. The incident raises fresh questions about flight planning and operational checks, especially as it comes barely a week after the tragic crash of an Air India Dreamliner in Ahmedabad, where a London-bound Boeing 787-8 aircraft went down shortly after take-off on June 12, claiming over 250 lives.
Adding to aviation safety concerns, another IndiGo flight bound for Madurai experienced a mid-air technical snag on Friday and had to return to Chennai. The aircraft, carrying 68 passengers, landed safely and all onboard were deplaned with proper safety measures, sources confirmed.
he Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to review these incidents closely, as scrutiny over flight safety protocols intensifies across the Indian aviation sector.
