Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur gets one year extension in tenure, first in UT's history

PTC News Desk: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formally approved a one-year extension to tenure of Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur. With the approval, she has become first officer to receive tenure extension in the post since the Union Territory came into existence.

An order dated March 16, 2026, signed by Director Sakshi Mittal of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, states that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal to extend the inter-cadre deputation of Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS (PB: 2013). Her deputation from the Punjab cadre to the AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh segment) has been extended for one year beyond March 8, 2026.


The order has been sent to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, with copies marked to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Private Secretary to the Home Minister, the Cabinet Secretariat, MHA Additional Secretary (Police-I) Rakesh Kumar Singh, the Chief Secretaries of Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, and the officer concerned, among others. Earlier, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan had confirmed that all necessary approvals were in place and that only the formal ACC order was awaited.
