Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of India's Champions Trophy 2025 Squad due to injury
PTC News Desk: Indian pacer Japrit Bumrah has been ruled out of India's squad for Champions trophy 2025, according to BCCI. The 2025 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy will be played from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan (Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi) and one in Dubai.
"Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men's Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah's replacement. Team India have also named Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad. The spinner will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal who was initially named in the provisional squad," the BCCI said in a release.
Bumrah, who sustained a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was recommended a five-week rest, as confirmed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. However, the 31-year-old fast bowler has not fully recovered in time.
During the series against England, pacer Harshit Rana made his ODI debut and has taken four wickets in two matches.
Another significant change to India's squad is the exclusion of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal from the final lineup, with mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy replacing him.
Both Jaiswal and Chakaravarthy made their ODI debuts during the series against England. Additionally, Team India has named three non-traveling substitutes — Jaiswal, pacer Mohammed Siraj, and all-rounder Shivam Dube — to cover for any potential injuries.
