PTC News Desk: JNU protest turns violent as clashes leave police, students injured; office bearers among 14 arrested
Protest at the Jawaharlal Nehru University intensified on Thursday and in the wee hours of Friday after student groups and police accused each other of violence during a student march. Police have also confirmed as many as 14 arrests including the student union president and other office bearers.
Those arrested include former JNUSU president Nitish Kumar, current president Aditi Mishra, vice-president Gopika Babu, and joint secretary Danish Ali.
Students have been protesting, demadning implementation of University Grant Commission regulations while the authorities said that the authority denied permission for march to the Ministry of Education, and the protest turned violent when students tried to move out of the campus. Several police personnel were injured in the clashes.
