PTC News Desk: Kalyan Bainsla, accused in Gurugram road rage case, was arrested in Rajasthan's Dausa in a significant breakthrough in the hit-and-run case that drew widespread attention and sparked massive outrage.
Bainsla had been absconding since the incident on Sunday morning, and a massive manhunt was underway to track him down. He will now face charges, including attempt to murder, among other offences.
Who is Kalyan Bainsla ?
The accused in the Gurugram hit-and-run case is an international kabaddi player who is also a member of Indian rugby team, as he identifies himself on Instagram.
Bainsla is accused of allegedly hitting Sia, a woman biker, with his friend’s car on Sunday. The impact threw her off her Aprilia RS 457 sports bike and caused her to slide several metres along the road, according to footage recorded by a camera mounted on her motorcycle.
Bainsla reportedly runs two or three gyms and works as a fitness trainer. He has also claimed to have won a bodybuilding competition in India.
Following the incident, his photographs and details from social media accounts have been widely shared online.
His official Instagram account is no longer visible in searches. Some users have claimed that he deactivated the account, while a fan page linked to him remains active.
Bainsla was reportedly active on Instagram before the incident.
The case
A video showing a woman biker being knocked off her motorcycle by a car on a Gurugram road had gone viral on social media, with the rider alleging that the vehicle had been following and trying to confront her before the crash.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday on Golf Course Road, where the woman, identified online as Sia, was riding her Aprilia RS 457 along with members of her biking group.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, Sia said the occupants of a car began behaving aggressively while she was riding. She alleged that the car repeatedly tried to come close to her and that the people inside asked her to stop.
Sia claimed she kept riding to avoid being blocked and also asked the occupants to maintain a safe distance. According to her account, she suspected that the men inside the car were drunk.
She further alleged that the car continued to follow her before the driver suddenly tried to move in front of her motorcycle. The car then hit her bike, throwing her onto the road. The motorcycle was also dragged for a few metres before the car sped away.
The incident was captured on an action camera fitted to Sia's motorcycle.
