Kathua encounter: Gunfight breaks out between security forces and suspected Pak-based terrorists
PTC Web Desk: An encounter erupted between security forces and suspected Pakistan-backed terrorists in a remote village of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening, officials confirmed.
Security agencies believe that two to three terrorists linked to the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed are hiding in the area and are currently engaged in a gunfight with the forces.
The encounter began in Kahog village of the Billawar area after security personnel launched a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, officials said.
Confirming the development, Inspector General of Police (Jammu zone) Bhim Sen Tuti said in a post on X that the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kathua had established contact with terrorists in the forest area of Kamadh Nullah.
According to sources, one suspected terrorist was spotted by local residents around 4 pm near Kamad Nallah, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Billawar police station. Sources added that the individual could be the same suspect who was seen earlier in the day in the Dhannu Parole area.
Officials said additional security reinforcements have been rushed to the spot and the operation is ongoing.
