Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, initiated the resolution for the suspension of the initial five MPs. The resolution highlighted their misconduct and disregard for the House and its authority, leading to their suspension for the session. Subsequently, an additional nine MPs faced suspension for the ongoing session. Bhartruhari Mahtab chaired the proceedings during the adoption of these resolutions.
The Opposition's demand for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation stemmed from a security breach in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, escalating tensions within the House.
The recent suspension follows the suspension of TMC's Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien for disruptive behaviour in the upper house of Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar took this action for the session's remainder after a motion was brought forth by the Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal.
During ongoing Lok Sabha proceedings, two intruders breached security from the visitors' gallery, entering the chamber. They proceeded to release a smoke canister before being restrained by present MPs. This security breach has drawn criticism from the opposition, who demand a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah and action against BJP MP Pratap Simha for recommending the duo's access pass to Lok Sabha.
