Kolkata doctor murder: Doctors across India begin indefinite strike
Kolkata doctor murder: Doctors at multiple hospitals across India have declared an indefinite strike in protest of the brutal r@pe and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. Doctors in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and several other locations have announced that all elective services will be suspended until the investigation is completed. The protesters also demand adequate safety for all medical personnel.
The announcement comes only days after a postgraduate trainee doctor was r@ped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
On Thursday, a 32-year-old woman was found dead in the seminar hall of a government-run hospital in the West Bengal capital. According to the initial autopsy report, the victim was bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and private parts. She also had injuries to her left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips.
Vineet Goyal, the city police commissioner, visited the medical facility on Sunday for the second time in three days and spoke with representatives of the angry junior doctors.
He said the investigation is "transparent" and urged people not to disseminate misinformation.
Police arrested one person in the case, a civic volunteer who was not affiliated with the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital but used to visit the facility.
Sanjoy Roy had returned home and gone to sleep before washing clothes the next morning to destroy evidence, according to a police investigator investigating the case. The police found bloodstains on the shoes of Sanjoy Roy.
