Life imprisonment to Sajjan Kumar : Why former Congress MP was not awarded death penalty ?
PTC News Desk: The Rouse Avenue court has awarded Life Imprisonment to former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in the double murder case of Jaswant Singh and Tarundeep Singh. The verdict pronounced by the court has only partially healed the wounds of Sikh victims as the victims had been protesting outside court seeking "Death Penalty" for Sajjan Kumar.
Interestingly, the Rouse Avenue court has awarded life Imprisonment to Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in two cases. First in murder case of father and son took place on 1st November, 1984 in Saraswati Vihar, and the second in burning and looting of houses during the 1984. The senior Advocate H.S Phoolka in conversation with PTC news said that with today's judgement overall three life Imprisonment has been awarded to Sajjan Kumar.
Why not a Death penalty to Sajjan Kumar?
According to senior counsel H.S Phoolka, as per medical reports Kumar has been diagnosed with several diseases and is not capable of handling himself. The court keeping in view Kumar's old age (80 years) and the Jail report, barred him from death penalty.
H.S Phoolka further asserted that the order pronounced by honourable court will be challenged in higher courts if victims reiterate their demand seeking capital punishment for Sajjan Kumar.
H.S Phoolka responding to PTC News also said we will talk to the victims family and will challenge in Delhi High court if the Sikh victims demand to approach High court.
Soon after the Media briefing, Adv. H.S Phoolka took to his social media and said that medical report of Sajjan Kumar presented by the Jail authorities seems to be manipulated. He also asserted that they will be approaching Delhi High Court for examination of medical reports and if any discrepancy is found, they will request the honourable court to consider capital punishment for the accused Sajjan Kumar.
We are got information that #SajjanKumar is not suffering from so many ailments as mentioned in Jail Report, due to which he is not awarded Death Sentence. Jail Report is manipulated. We will ask High Court to constitute Medical Board & if report is wrong, award Death https://t.co/I10HUZy6rS — H S Phoolka (@hsphoolka) February 25, 2025
