PM Modi announces Bharat Ratna for BJP stalwart LK Advani

PTC News Desk: Lal Krishna Advani, commonly known as L.K. Advani, is a senior and influential leader within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a prominent political party to be conferred with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. 

Taking to his X handle (former Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to confer BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani with Bharat Ratna Award and wrote, “I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. His is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister. He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights.”



In another series of tweet, PM Modi highlighted Advani's legacy, unwavering commitment and political ethics towards Nation and wrote, "Advani Ji’s decades-long service in public life has been marked by an unwavering commitment to transparency and integrity, setting an exemplary standard in political ethics. He has made unparalleled efforts towards furthering national unity and cultural resurgence. The conferring of the Bharat Ratna on him is a very emotional moment for me. I will always consider it my privilege that I got countless opportunities to interact with him and learn from him." 


        

Lal Krishna Advani has left a lasting legacy in Indian politics, marked by his long and influential career spanning several decades. Advani played a pivotal role in the formation of the BJP in 1980, which emerged as a prominent political force representing right-wing and Hindu nationalist ideologies. 

His leadership during the Ayodhya movement, particularly the Rath Yatra in 1990, significantly influenced the political landscape. The movement focused on the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya and led to the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992, shaping the trajectory of Indian politics.
