Madhya Pradesh: 100 students hospitalised after consuming hostel mess meal at LNIPE Gwalior

Madhya Pradesh: In an unfortunate incident, around 100 students hospitalised due to food poisoning after consuming hostel meal of Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district. 

The dreadful incident unfolded when around 18 to 25 years old students of Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), consumed food in the mess of the institute and complained about stomach ache, vomiting, headaches and nausea thus suspected food poisoning.

Following the complaint, by students they were admitted at a government hospital and are undergoing treatment. 

After receiving the complaint from LNIPE, hospital authorities and staff made arrangements and preparations for beds instantly.  As per the statement by Superintendent of the Hospital, “Approximately 100 children were admitted. Everyone is being treated. Their initial symptoms looked like food poisoning. But we will know this only after the food that they have is tested."

With God’s grace, there is no loss of life. One child reported to be serious and is on ventilator. Apart from that student, five to six children are also quite serious. 97 children were admitted in front of him and their age ranges between 18 and 25 years, hospital authorities stated. 

The in-charge registrar of LNIPE, Amit Yadav said, "The condition of the students is fine and stable. Only five students are in ICU out of which four are under observation because their BP is fluctuating. One child was critical at night, and now he is also in a stable state. Around 97 students were admitted in the night, later on Wednesday morning around 13 more students were admitted."

Meanwhile, on getting the information about the matter, the district administration swung into action and reached the institute along with the Food Department team to collect the samples.

However, the condition of all the students is stable now and has been kept under observation. The incident highlights the need for stringent measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students in hostel.

The authorities are conducting a further investigation into the matter to determine the circumstances that led to the food poisoning and ensure appropriate action is taken in response to this tragic incident.
