Maghi Purnima Snan: Prayagraj declared ‘No Vehicle Zone’ to manage Maha Kumbh crowds
PTC Web Desk: The UP Police authorities have enforced stringent traffic restrictions in Prayagraj ahead of the Maghi Purnima Snan on Wednesday, February 12, to ensure the smooth movement of devotees during the Maha Kumbh 2025. The decision follows massive traffic jams on Monday, where thousands of pilgrims were reportedly stranded for over 30 hours, with congestion stretching across 300 kms.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the sheer volume of devotees, Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar stated that the delays are not due to mismanagement but a result of the largest gathering of humanity in history. Since the Maha Kumbh commenced on January 13, over 40 crore devotees have already taken a holy dip at the Sangam, with millions more expected in the coming days.
Traffic restrictions for Maghi Purnima Snan
To facilitate a seamless bathing experience, the entire Maha Kumbh Mela area will be a no-vehicle zone from 4 am on February 11. Key restrictions include:
Prayagraj city to implement a no-vehicle zone from 5 pm on February 11 (Essential and emergency services exempted).
Devotees' vehicles to be parked at designated lots outside Prayagraj from 4 am on February 11.
Traffic curbs to remain in effect until February 12, ensuring a safe and systematic dispersal of pilgrims.
‘Kalpvasi’ pilgrims' vehicles will also be subject to entry and exit restrictions.
As the Maghi Purnima Snan draws closer, the police are urging devotees to follow the traffic plan to prevent congestion and ensure a peaceful pilgrimage experience.
