Maha Kumbh 2025: Grand Kumb mela hosts more pilgrims than the population of the US!
PTC Web Desk: The grand Maha Kumbh 2025 will conclude today, setting a world record with an estimated 65 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the Sangam. This number is twice the population of the United States, surpassing all previous records. The Uttar Pradesh government had earlier estimated 45 crore devotees, but the final turnout exceeded expectations. In 2019, 24 crore pilgrims had taken a holy dip in sangam.
Key Highlights of Maha Kumbh 2025
Daily footfall: At least 1.5 crore devotees bathed in the Sangam every day.
Saints and pilgrims: Over 1 lakh sadhus and Naga saints, along with 10 lakh Kalpvasis, resided in the Kumbh Mela area.
Global participation: Diplomats from 73 countries and 50 lakh foreign visitors attended.
Security measures: More than 50,000 security personnel and 2,700 surveillance cameras ensured safety.
Hospitality & Infrastructure
Over 4 lakh tents and 1.5 lakh toilets were set up for pilgrims.
A 1,532 km-long power line was installed, providing 4.71 lakh electricity connections.
The Kumbh area was divided into 25 sectors, covering 4,000 hectares—160 times larger than the world’s biggest stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad (25 hectares).
Massive transportation & logistics support
Trains: A record 30.3 crore devotees arrived via 13,830 trains.
Flights: Prayagraj was connected through 17 direct cities and 30 connecting flights.
Bridges & Ghats
42 bathing ghats were built along a 13 km stretch, with 10 permanent ghats.
2,213 pontoon bridges were constructed to ease movement across the Ganga and Yamuna—a significant increase from 22 bridges in 2019.
Healthcare & Emergency Services
43 hospitals were set up in the mela area.
More than 6 lakh people received medical treatment.
Over 400 official protocols were issued during the event.
