Maharashtra: Tragic accident on Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra claims 12 lives and injures over 20
Mumbai, October 15: In a devastating incident on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, formerly known as Aurangabad, a speeding mini-bus collided with a container, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and injuries to 23 individuals. The accident unfolded in the early hours of a Sunday, with the private bus carrying 35 passengers.
The tragedy occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the Vaijapur area of the expressway, situated approximately 350 kilometers from Mumbai. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver of the bus lost control, leading to a collision with the container from behind.

The casualties included five men, six women, and a minor girl, totaling 12 fatalities. Another 23 individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a government hospital for medical attention.
According to the police, the ill-fated mini-bus was carrying a group of pilgrims from Nashik to the Baba Teerth pilgrimage site in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The accident transpired as the vehicle was returning to Nashik after the religious pilgrimage.
Reports from the police indicate that 17 of the injured passengers are being treated at the Valley Hospital in Aurangabad, while the remaining six injured individuals have been taken to the rural hospital in Vaijapur for medical care.
The tempo driver also suffered injuries during the accident and provided a statement to the police, explaining that the collision occurred when a truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the tempo.
The injured victims were promptly transported to hospitals in Aurangabad and Vaijapur, with several reported to be in critical condition. The police have registered a case related to the accident, and further investigations are currently in progress.
Expressing condolences over the tragic incident, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each family of the deceased. He has also ordered an inquiry into the accident to ascertain the circumstances that led to this heart-wrenching disaster.
