Gurdaspur private hospital blast: Windows, doors shattered after extortion threats; suspect captured on CCTV
PTC Web Desk: A powerful explosion rocked Multani Hospital at Kalanaur town of Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Tuesday, triggering panic in the area and raising fresh concerns over the security situation in the region. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, though the impact of the blast shattered the windowpanes and glass doors of the hospital building.
The explosion created chaos in the locality as residents and shopkeepers rushed out in fear. Soon after the incident, senior police officials, including SSP Aditya, SP DK Chaudhary and SHO Maulakh Singh, reached the spot along with a heavy police contingent and launched an investigation.
Police officials said forensic teams have also been deployed to collect evidence from the scene, while the entire area has been sealed off as part of the probe.
A CCTV footage recovered from the vicinity has become a crucial lead in the investigation. The footage reportedly shows a suspicious youth loitering around the hospital premises for a considerable period before the blast. However, no footage of the actual attack has surfaced so far.
Investigators are currently analysing the footage to establish the identity and movement of the suspect.
This is the third attack on Multani Hospital in recent years. Hospital owner Dr Amarbir Singh Multani has allegedly been on the radar of gangsters for refusing to pay extortion money. Earlier incidents involving indiscriminate firing at the hospital had also created panic, though no injuries were reported in those attacks either.
The latest blast has once again raised serious questions about the effectiveness of security measures despite repeated threats and attacks on the hospital.
Police officials said multiple teams have been formed to track down the accused and assured that those responsible would be arrested soon.
