Man breaches security at New Parliament complex by scaling wall, nabbed by guards
PTC Web Desk: In a startling security breach early Friday morning, a man managed to enter the Parliament House complex by climbing a tree and scaling the boundary wall. The incident occurred around 6.30 am, raising serious concerns over security arrangements at one of the nation’s most protected zones.
According to officials, the intruder gained access to the premises from the Rail Bhavan side and managed to reach the Garuda Gate of the new Parliament building before being intercepted. Security personnel immediately detained him, and he is currently being interrogated.
The breach comes barely a day after the monsoon session of Parliament ended, marked by frequent disruptions that stalled much of the legislative business.
This is not the first time Parliament security has been compromised. Last year, a youth in his early 20s scaled the boundary wall and entered the Annexe building. A video of the incident later surfaced, showing CISF personnel detaining him. Investigations at that time revealed nothing incriminating.
In December 2023, on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, an even more alarming breach occurred inside the Lok Sabha. Two persons, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, leapt from the visitors’ gallery into the chamber during Zero Hour, released yellow smoke from canisters, and raised slogans before being overpowered by MPs. Simultaneously, two others—Amol Shinde and Neelam Azad—sprayed coloured gas outside Parliament while chanting anti-dictatorship slogans. Four others, including Mahesh Kumawat and Lalit Jha, were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Just earlier this week, the Delhi High Court sought a response from the city police regarding the bail plea of Lalit Jha, one of the accused in the 2023 breach case.
The authorities are investigating the latest incident to determine the motive of the intruder and to plug loopholes in security protocols.
