Manipur clashes: Two weeks on, 3 killed in fresh violence in Manipur's Ukhrul district
PTC Web Desk: In a recent outbreak of violence in Manipur, three persons were killed in a village located in Ukhrul, predominantly inhabited by Tangkhul Naga community, on Friday morning. This village had previously maintained a state of relative peace amidst the ongoing conflict in the region.
As per information, the incident took place at 4:30 am in Thowai Kuki village, inhabited by the Kuki community. This village falls under the purview of the Ukhrul police. The victims have been identified as Thangkhokai Haokip, Jamkhogin Haokip and Hollenson Baite.
Ukhrul Superintendent of Police Ningshem Vashum said the trio was village guards assigned with the responsibility of safeguarding the community.
The SP said the incident was related to the persisting ethnic issue in Manipur. A group of armed individuals entered the village, resulting in the killing of three persons who were stationed as guards. The gunfire has ceased within the vicinity, and security forces, including the Army and police, have been deployed at the location.
He said with the village being situated in a remote area, the nearest security post is approximately 3 km away. Therefore, security personnel were not present in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
