Imphal, Manipur: A minor bomb explosion occurred outside the residence of Manipur's panchayati raj and rural development minister, Yumnam Khemchand, in Imphal on Saturday night, resulting in injuries to a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a local woman. The incident unfolded at Yumnam Leikai Lairembi Maning when unidentified individuals on a motorcycle tossed what is believed to be a grenade at around 10 pm.

The CRPF personnel, who was on duty outside the minister's home, sustained minor injuries to his right hand due to the blast. The injured woman is a resident of the locality.

In response to the incident, Chief Minister N Biren Singh quickly visited the scene to assess the situation. Security measures in the area have been heightened, and investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits, according to an anonymous police official.

This incident follows a recent attempt on September 29, when a substantial group of protesters tried to attack the residence of L Susindro, a BJP MLA and minister for physical health engineering and consumer affairs, located in Khurai Sajor Leikai, Imphal East district. Security forces, including the state police and Rapid Action Force (RAF), successfully dispersed the mob using tear gas shells and smoke bombs.

Over the past five months, Imphal has witnessed a series of attacks on the residences of ministers and MLAs amid ongoing ethnic clashes between Meiteis and tribal Kukis, which have left at least 178 people dead and over 50,000 displaced.
