Massive explosion at steel plant in Chhattisgarh: Seven charred to death, several reported injured
PTC Web Desk: At least seven workers lost their lives and several others sustained serious injuries after a coal furnace exploded at a steel manufacturing unit in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district on Thursday, officials confirmed.
The incident took place at Real Ispat Steel Plant located in Bakulahi area, where a coal-fired furnace reportedly burst during routine operations. A group of labourers was engaged in cleaning work near the furnace when the explosion occurred, catching them off guard.
According to preliminary information, the blast released intense heat and burning coal, engulfing workers standing nearby. Several labourers suffered severe burn injuries after coming in direct contact with flames and molten coal. While seven workers were declared dead, others were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition. Authorities are yet to release the exact number of injured.
Local sources indicated that the victims suffered extensive burns, leaving little chance of survival for those closest to the furnace at the time of the explosion.
The management of Real Ispat Steel Plant has so far not issued any official statement regarding the cause of the blast or the medical status of the injured workers.
Police teams reached the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the explosion.
