Mumbai rainfall updates: Record wettest July with red alert as heavy rainfall triggers flooding
Mumbai, July 26: Mumbai witnessed incessant heavy rainfall, making it the wettest July ever recorded with a total of 1557.8 mm of rainfall so far, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The previous record for the wettest July was in 2020 with 1,502 mm of rainfall at the IMD's Santacruz observatory, representing Mumbai's suburbs.
The heavy rains continued throughout the day, leading the weather office to upgrade the alert level from 'orange' to 'red'. The red alert, effective from Wednesday night until Thursday afternoon, warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated areas in Mumbai city and suburban regions.
The city's streets were flooded, causing disruptions in daily life and highlighting the need for residents to exercise caution and preparedness during such extreme weather conditions. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
As the monsoon continues, it is essential for people in Mumbai to stay informed about weather updates and follow the guidelines issued by the authorities to minimize any potential risks and inconveniences caused by the heavy rainfall.
