Pakistani LeT commander Yasir killed in Yousmarg encounter in Kashmir’s Budgam
PTC Web Desk: A Pakistani commander linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), identified as Yasir, was killed in an encounter with joint security forces in the upper reaches of Yousmarg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday, according to security sources.
The gunfight followed an intelligence-based operation launched after security agencies received information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Special Forces and personnel of the 53 Rashtriya Rifles jointly conducted the operation in the higher reaches of Yousmarg. The search operation turned into a gunfight after security forces came under fire from the terrorists, sources said.
According to the sources, Yasir was earlier associated with the Sulaiman Musa group of Lashkar-e-Taiba. He reportedly separated from the group around a year ago and had since been operating independently.
Security agencies had been monitoring his movements in the Yousmarg area, the sources said.
Sources said Yasir emerged as an important LeT operative in the region after breaking away from the group. His reported presence in the upper reaches of Yousmarg prompted security forces to launch the operation.
Following his death, agencies are now examining his network and possible links with other LeT operatives active in Jammu and Kashmir.
Investigators are also looking into Yasir’s activities in the region and whether he had any connection with recent terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
