PTC Web Desk: In a historic move, India has introduced the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at offering proactive legal support to the families of soldiers stationed in remote and hostile terrains. The new programme seeks to alleviate the legal burdens of soldiers by assisting their families with legal matters back home, ensuring that soldiers can focus on defending the nation without worrying about domestic legal issues.

The scheme was officially launched today in Srinagar by Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were also present.

The idea behind this initiative emerged after Operation Sindoor, which deeply moved Justice Surya Kant, prompting him to explore how the judiciary could better support the armed forces and their families. Justice Kant emphasised the need for the legal fraternity to ensure that soldiers, who are stationed at the borders, do not face legal isolation back home.

The scheme is designed to address the challenges faced by soldiers deployed in isolated areas where they often lack the time or resources to handle personal legal matters, such as family property issues, domestic disputes, or land-related concerns. For instance, a soldier posted in Jammu and Kashmir may find it difficult to attend court hearings in states like Kerala or Tamil Nadu due to limited leave or geographical constraints.

Through the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana, the National Legal Services Authority will step in to represent such cases in courts across India, ensuring that soldiers’ families receive timely legal assistance. The initiative will also extend support to paramilitary forces like the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), among others, who also serve in challenging conditions.
