New Delhi's air quality 'Moderate', but poor conditions persist in some areas
PTC News Desk: The air quality in New Delhi was categorised as 'moderate' on Saturday with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 173. However, various parts of the city experienced 'poor' air quality conditions.
Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 239, while New Moti Bagh in South Delhi almost reached the 'very poor' category with an AQI of 293. ITO recorded an AQI of 199. The previous day, on Friday morning, the air quality in the national capital was also in the 'moderate' category, with an AQI of 149. Over the course of the week, the overall AQI increased from 83 on Wednesday to 117 on Thursday.
The Air Quality Index serves as a valuable tool for conveying air quality conditions in an easily understandable manner. It classifies air quality into six categories: Good Satisfactory, Moderately Polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe.
These categories are determined based on the levels of air pollutants in the environment and their potential health effects, which are referred to as health breakpoints. According to the AQI scale, air quality is considered 'good' between 0 and 50, 'satisfactory' between 51 and 100, 'moderate' between 101 and 200, 'poor' between 201 and 300, 'very poor' between 301 and 400, and 'severe' between 401 and 450.
