NIA files chargesheet in connection with grenade attack at Manoranjan Kalia's residence
PTC News Desk: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four individuals, including suspected Khalistani operatives, for their alleged role in a grenade attack on the residence of former Punjab minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar, officials said on Sunday.
The chargesheet, submitted in a Chandigarh court on Saturday, names two arrested accused — Saidul Ameen from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and Abhijot Jangra from Kurukshetra, Haryana — along with two absconders, Kulbir Singh Sidhu from Yamunanagar and Manish alias Kaka Rana from Karnal, both residents of Haryana.
The attack occurred on the night of April 7, 2025, and the NIA took over the investigation on April 12. According to the agency, Sidhu, an operative of the banned terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), and his associate Manish had formed a terror module aimed at targeting prominent Punjab leaders to spread fear and raise funds for BKI through extortion.
The NIA stated that Manish later roped in Ameen, who carried out the grenade attack. Sidhu provided the explosive, while Jangra arranged the money for the operation. After the incident, Sidhu reportedly circulated a poster claiming responsibility for the attack, along with Manish.
A Red Corner Notice has been issued against Sidhu, who also carries a reward of ₹10 lakh for information leading to his arrest. The NIA noted that Sidhu had previously been chargesheeted in connection with the targeted killing of Punjab-based VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in April 2024.
The agency has intensified efforts to locate and arrest the absconding accused and identify other Babbar Khalsa International operatives active in India, the statement added.
