Nine killed, several injured after explosives recovered from Haryana doctor go off at J&K police station
PTC News Desk: At least nine people were killed and over 30 injured after a huge pile of recovered explosives stored at Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir went off on Friday night.
Most of the people who died were police personnel and members of the forensic team who were inspecting the explosives. Two officials from the Srinagar administration also lost their lives.
The blast happened while officials were handling explosive material that had recently been brought in from Faridabad, Haryana.
The injured have been taken to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and SKIMS. Senior police officers have arrived in Nowgam, and the area has been sealed off.
It was the Nowgam police station that had earlier uncovered the case involving Jaish-e-Mohammed posters appearing across the area. These posters helped expose a terror module involving radicalised, highly educated professionals. The investigation led to a major explosives seizure and the arrest of several “terror doctors.”
In October, one of the arrested men, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, was caught on camera putting up posters warning of major attacks on security forces and “outsiders” in Kashmir. His arrest on October 27 revealed a dangerous network that was later linked to the Delhi blast that killed 13 people earlier this week.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the probe uncovered a “white-collar terror ecosystem” run by radicalised professionals and students who were in contact with handlers in Pakistan and other countries.
